Dog Product Reviews

We publish dog product reviews conducted by us and other dog owners. All products have been used in real-life situations. We provide information about the dog(s) who tested each product and accurate information about how well the product performed. We do not accept payment for positive reviews. FAQgnawinforever

What kind of products do you review?

We seek real-life product reviews of dog products: toys, treats, beds, clothing items, problem solvers and other items. We publish reviews when we feel that a dog owner’s real-life experiences with that product would be beneficial to our visitors, or would help them decide if that product would be right for their dogs.

Reviews must provide relevant and useful information about the features of the product. Does it work? How thoroughly was it tested? How long does it last? We examine qualities such as taste, comfort, durability, wear, care and appeal. Examples of things we would not review are greeting cards, portraits and urns.

Are your reviews designed to feed traffic to an affiliate program?

No. Like many of you, we have seen the money-making “review sites” set up by people who earn commissions on click-through purchases. These are not necessarily product reviews or product tests, but simply sites with pages that talk about products. Most of these webmasters have never used or seen the products they’re “reviewing.” Google doesn’t like these sites, and we know you don’t like them either. Although we do own a retail site (this is how we have developed our expertise in pet products), you’ll find that most of our reviews link back to the manufacturer or to a retailer who is a competitor. Because our site deals only in funny products, most of the products we review are unsuitable for our site. If we really love a product and want to carry it in our store, we do. But redirecting traffic for commissions not the purpose of the blog.

How do I write a product review?

I love to have other reviewers on the blog. However, I do not accept reviews from manufacturers or publicity/marketing companies, or anyone representing the product to be reviewed. If you wish to submit a consumer review, contact me at lisa@funstufffordogs.com. Provide the following information:

  • The name and manufacturer’s name of the product
  • How long you’ve been using it, and how many dogs have been using it
  • Your city and state
  • A short write-up about your experience with the product.

If it fits our needs, I’ll email you with a form to fill out, then I’ll post your review!

How do I submit my product for your review?

Contact me at lisa@funstufffordogs.com and tell me about the product. Include a picture or a link to your website where I can learn more. Tell me why the product is different or better than the other stuff out there. If a product review is appropriate, I’ll give you an address where you can ship a sample, plus your brochure or other information about the product. Please allow 30 days for a product review to appear on the blog.

Do you publish responses from manufacturers whose products have been reviewed?

Yes, if I feel you have additional information that would be helpful to our readers.

Example: A reviewer finds that a plush toy does not last as long as the she thinks it should. The manufacturer contacts us to say that the toy was not meant to be a chew toy, or left unattended with a dog. In this case, we would publish that information so that dog owners would know how to properly use that toy.

Do you only review products sold on your retail website?

No. The Dog Product Reivews are intended to be a helpful guide to dog owners as they shop for products for their dogs. Although we sell products that we believe in, we do not restrict product reviews to products we sell. Not all popular products are approprate for our websites. For example, we cannot compete on price with Wal-Mart for products such as Kong toys. However, if Kong comes out with a product that you would like to review, we feel that there are enough visitors who would be interested in another dog owner’s experience with a popular product to justify publishing a review.

As another example, we do not sell dog food, but would publish a review of a dog food if we felt the review was thorough, objective and would be of interest to other visitors.

Do you reject unfavorable reviews of products you sell?

No. Our objective is to share information. If a reviewer finds that a certain product we sell is not appropriate for larger dogs, for example, we feel that’s valuable information to share with other dog owners. One customer told us that a certain “chew” was consumed too quickly and thought it should be more of a treat than a chew. That’s good feedback. We want to inform dog owners as consumers.

NOTE: Product reviews are inteded solely as anecdotal consumer information, and are not intended to promote any particular dog products. We receive no compensation for reviews. We purchase all products on our sites. Although we do not have a Consumer Reports-type laboratory in which to scientifically test products, we feel that normal use “in the field” by other dog owners is valuable and sharing that information is what our product reviews are all about.

I just started my web site and would like to get my products reviewed by you. We make large and giant breed dog clothes, which are hard to find items. We specialize in “stylish” items for the big dogs.

I bought a mini Orka dog bone for my 7 month old Yorkie. Within the first 2 minutes my pup had it destroyed in to three pieces. I have bought other Orka toys and they were fine. I think these were defective.

I found a product that I’d like to share with other dog owners. I don’t sell this product, but I believe in it! It’s Flint River Ranch dog food. One of my Great Danes has always had a problem digesting food. It got to the point that he would throw up almost every time he ate. Once we started feeding him this dog food, the problem went away! I wrote a whole article about the product on hubpages.

I like Fromm dog food…made in Wisconsin. I augment it with pumpkin and my fussy girl really likes it. Pork & applesauce flavor is her favorite and keeps the digestive woes away! Glad you found something that your dog likes!

I would like to which orthopedic beds (need a LARGE one, preferrably with bolsters) for my arthritic dog. I bought a buddybed because it was so highly rated. My dog hates it. They demand a 15% re-stocking fee (about $50) and require a RA. It is now 3 voice & emails later and I still haven’t heard back from them. So, if anyone has a good suggestion from a business that is reputable to deal with, I’m all ears!

    Thanks,

Try the Simmons Beautyrest mattress for dogs. It lasts forever. Dogs love it because they sit up higher and it’s firm. There’s a pillow top cover if you want to soften it for your dog. Fitted sheets available to keep it clean (I think it comes with one and you can buy extras). Just Google Simmons Beautyrest Mattress for Dogs.

    Hi,

I’ve checked out your site because we are always looking for bloggers to put our dog t-shirts, dog hoodies, dog leashes and dog collars through the paces. Contrary to many companies, our product is created, designed, manufactured and shipped in house. If you have an interested in carrying our line, please drop me a line.

It would have been good if some of the product reviews for dog products are backed up by scientifical studies. I think some research over the web, and then tabulate any data or info found in some sort of tables will just be good enough. Just a recommendation.

A great recommendation. Although we do not have a Consumer Reports-type laboratory in which to test dog products, we do feel that testing products “in the field” by dog owners who represent typical users is of value.
